A different world
THE REALITY CHECK II
Islay McLeod's photo essay from Springburn, a few minutes from Glasgow city centre
It's the Sunday of a big Celtic game – crowds
gather outside local pubs |

But one or two fans haven't lived to see the result
|
Once Springburn built railway locomotives for the world.
Now it feels more like the end of the line |
Yet some of the housing has been improved
– well, modernised at least |
Springburn leisure centre |
But despite the facilities, it remains one of the
poorest places in Britain |
Nowhere poorer than in the notorious Red Road estate |
Opposite that block, someone still cares
– a man picking up weeds outside a pub |
Evidence too of social activism, as Springburn campaigns
to keep a primary school open |
This too is Springburn – right at the heart of it
|
But across the road, there's this |
