1Stephen Covey, who has died at the age of 79, was an American management guru and the author of a best-selling book, 'The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People'. The habits were:
1. Be proactive;
2. Begin with the end in mind;
3. Put first things first;
4. Think win-win;
5. Seek first to understand, then to be understood;
6. Synergise;
7. Sharpen the saw.
The seventh habit was a reference to the need to keep in good shape physically and mentally. Amazingly, many important people took 'The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People' entirely seriously, and the book made Covey a fortune.

Five
faces of
Raasay

Islay McLeod

Michael Milne: works for NHS. 'I care for my elderly mother.
We live in the lighthouse – come in and see us any time.'

Val Corey: retired children's librarian from Liverpool. 'My
husband and I both had Scottish grandparents and thought
of ourselves as frightfully Scottish. That was until we came
here to live.'

Norma Duncan: primary school teacher. 'I was brought up on Raasay but don't live here now. I like to come over when I can
– my family have owned the same house here for generations.'

Callum Gillies: has lived on Raasay for 83 years. 'It's quiet
enough but there's always something to be done and pastimes
to do.'

Tekela Cooke: healthcare worker with children who have
learning disabilities. 'I'm originally from The Netherlands
and moved here to start a family. I used to be a potter but
it's hard to make a living out of it.'
