Schools' Young Thinker

Secondary schools in Scotland were invited to nominate young teachers to participate in a new competition sponsored by the Scottish Review, the Schools' Young Thinker of the Year 2010. The brief: to research and write a 900-word paper ('Argument') on a subject of their own choice 'of current interest or controversy'.

The seven short-listed teachers were as follows:

Aksana Baikova, Camphill School, Aberdeen
Stuart Boyle, Bannerman High School, Glasgow
Alistair Cook, Inverness High School
Lorna Howie, Dalkeith High School
Peter Liddle, St Columba's High School, Dunfermline
Thom Sherrington, Aboyne Academy
Emma-Jane Welsh, Liberton High School, Edinburgh

The winner is Thom Sherrington and the runner-up is Stuart Boyle. Thom now holds the title Scottish Schools' Young Thinker of the Year 2010.
The competition was made possible by a generous anonymous donation for the development of SR and the encouragement of young talent.
