Slot volatility for newbies — what 'high volatility' actually means

Quick explainer because I see this asked monthly. Slot volatility = how spread out the wins are. Low volatility = many small wins (you'll be roughly break-even most sessions but rarely big wins). High volatility = few large wins (you'll lose 70%+ of sessions but the wins are big when they hit).

RTP is the same across volatility levels — 96% RTP means 96% return over millions of spins regardless. Volatility is the variance experience.

For bankroll preservation pick low volatility. For 'I want to dream of a £5,000 hit' pick high volatility. Both same EV, different experience.

Easy rule of thumb: Pragmatic's high-vol titles (Sweet Bonanza, Gates of Olympus) can swing your bankroll by 40x either way in a session. NetEnt's low-vol classics like Starburst grind. Pick based on session length, not theme.
